Earlier this year Microsoft announced the Certified Master program for SharePoint and ShareSquared was one of the first companies worldwide to send a candidate to this intense 3-week training and certification program.
The prerequisites alone are daunting. To be considered for the program the candidate must have many years of hands-on experience with SharePoint, pass 4 certification tests, submit a body of work, and interview with a panel of instructors. Upon acceptance, participants are then subjected to 12-16 hour days of intense training, weekly tests and a 12-hour lab at the end of three weeks.
Only a fraction of the candidates in the first publically offered session passed on the first try. Of these, ShareSquared's Maurice Prather was one of them, becoming the first ever Microsoft Certified Master for SharePoint in the United States and one of only a few worldwide.

Portals: Not just for tax anymore
While the use of client portals is most frequently associated with the transfer of tax documents, their potential scope extends far beyond that.
In addition to serving as client extranets, portals can offer better content management and collaboration tools to accounting firms, in addition to aiding in document retention requirements and securing private data.
Experts say that by utilizing client portals, a CPA firm not only gains a secure electronic storage space, but also bi-directional file exchange capabilities that ease delivery and reception of client documents.
