- Question: Will a recorded version of the webinar be made available?
Answer: Yes, it is available here
Note, if you experience issues with the low-res recording, please try the hi-res version for best viewing.
- Question: Will the presentation slides and demos be made available?
Answer: The presentation is available here and the link to the recorded demos is provided above.
- Question: Regarding Tags & Notes for document libraries. Can other people see these tags and notes?
Answer: Tags are specific to a user when created on a document library item. Tags in terms of metadata columns are visible to all users that have access to that item.
- Question: Do the social media aspects of SharePoint 2010 require Office 2010? If so, what components of SharePoint require it?
Answer: Office 2010 is not required to use the social media functionality in SharePoint.
- Question: If users subscribe to activities, is there a way to get a daily or weekly email digest like you do from Linked In or Facebook? Some users really want an email digest of the activities they pick to come to them not to have to go to a website (My Site).
Answer: Not out of the box however, a component could be developed for this. Please contact us for more information.
- Question: If you post an item on a note board in a My Site, does the person receive an email to let them know you posted on their My Site?
Answer: Yes, you can set email alerts for note board postings. The profile view in SP2010 has the following options for email notifications: "Notify me when someone leaves a note on my profile", "Notify me when someone adds me as a colleague" and "Send me suggestions for new colleagues and keywords".
- Question: Does SharePoint provide an option to remove or flag social media content?
Answer: Out of the box it does not however, this functionality could be custom-developed. Please contact us for additional information.
- Question: Can items in a list also be rated (e.g. document ratings)?
Answer: Yes, you can enable ratings on custom lists.
- Question: What's the difference between "Rating" a document and "Liking" it via the "I Like It" tag?
Answer: Rating a document sets a value that is recorded with everyone else’s ratings as part of the item’s metadata. An “I Like It” tag is not part of the item metadata but rather is stored with the user's profile who tagged it.
- Question: When you rate a document with 0-5 stars, can you also leave a comment to explain your rating?
Answer: You cannot leave comments when rating documents.
- Question: How are colleagues associated?
Answer: Colleagues are by default your co-workers in Active Directory. You can also manually add colleagues similar to how you would in other social sites like Facebook and Twitter.
- Question: Can you limit/create parameters for using My Sites?
Answer: You can change the site definition for the My Site Host, but in doing so you may cause other feature to not work properly. Care must be taken when attempting to do this. Please contact us for assistance.guidance.
- Question: You can "clear" a bad word but can you change it? So, if you want to correct the spelling of a commonly misspelled word but not delete the word, is that possible?
Answer: This functionality is not in the SharePoint Filter tool, but could be easily added.
- Question: Are tags and rating available within discussion forums and other lists, or just documents?
Answer: Yes, you can enable ratings on custom lists.
- Question: Is the MY SITES template / layout very customizable?
Answer: You can change the site definition for the My Site Host, but in doing so you may cause other feature to not work properly. Care must be taken when attempting to do this.
- Question: I noticed when the pop ups came up during the "apple" filter they were generic or said there was an error or an issue with the service; why not have a better comment in the alert like "this word is blocked - please refer to the HR manual"?
Answer: SharePoint Filter is simulating lower level error conditions, therefore the error that displays happens for any errors of Managed Metadata and is not customizable.
- Question: On your search center, you had a 3rd tab, "Reports", what does that search/filter on?
Answer: Search centers can have custom tabs created that target the search. In this case it would target only Reporting Services files for the search results.
- Question: Is it easy to replace those system messages when entering filtered term (bad word), otherwise our service desk will be bombarded by incident tickets?
Answer: No, these are generic errors emanating from SharePoint itself.
- Question: How does Tagging and Notes affect storage?
Answer: Every tag is stored once and then referenced. So, the more words that are used as tags, the more storage. Each time an item is tagged, a record is added. Because these tags are not large files, but rather small records, the MMS database should never grow very large.
- Question: How broad are the filters? i.e. if you had a filter for "flash", would it catch "flashy". Or if you had "apple", would it filter out appl which could be short for applications?
Answer: SharePoint Filter only does exact matching, it does not do any stemming of words.
